Brenco is a company created to produce ethanol from sugarcane on a large scale and with competitive costs, in order to taking part of the bio fuels market's expansion in Brazil an abroad, improving the life quality on the planet facing the threats brought by the Global-Warming. The Semco Group, jointly with Tarpon Investments, developed and coordinated the project of the formation of the company - which has the goal to become one of the major global ethanol producers - and sought partnerships to its implementation and consolidation. In addition to the Semco Group, Tarpon All Equities (investment fund managed by Tarpon Investments) and the businessman Henri Philippe Reichstul, which are the main founding Brazilian shareholders, international shareholders from Brenco also include seasoned investors like: Vinod Khosla, Stephen Case, Ronald Burkle, Stephen Bing and James Wolfensohn. In March 2007, Brenco concluded a private placement offering of US$200 million with institutional shareholders. The funds raised will be used mainly to develop plantations and construct industrial units to produce ethanol. Brenco's intention is operate on an integrated way, covering areas like ethanol's production, trading and logistics till the consumer markets. In February 2010, Brenco and ETH (www.eth.com) completed the asset merge process that has led to the creation of the leader in ethanol production and power generation from biomass.
