On January 12th, President Roussef signed a law creating the Legal Framework of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Celebrated by most of the support research foundations in Brazil, the so called Legal Framework will allow private companies to invest in national research projects. According with Professor Jacob Palis, president of the Brazilian Science Academy, the new law is able to unlock the growth of the national research.
“The idea is to provide the incentive to the brains involved with science and technology, make them move without facing unnecessary obstacles”, says Professor Palis, who is a member of the IMPA (Instituto deMatemática Pura e Aplicada), the Pure and Applied Brazilian Mathematics Institute, located in Rio de Janeiro. He is one of the most recognized math experts nowadays. He still says that, there are other targets to this law, like provide tax incentives to the investors.
